Unpacking the Charlie Hebdo Attacks

On Monday during lunch, I offered a session for Middle School students to discuss the recent attacks on the weekly satirical newspaper “Charlie Hebdo” which left 12 dead in a Paris office building last week. The newspaper was best known for publishing cartoons mocking political and religious figures as a form of social commentary. The Middle Schoolers Skyped with Dr. Rachel Lauthelier-Mourier in Slovenia. She has served as the Foreign Policy Advisor to the French Minister of Education and Higher Education, and as the European Research Advisor for Humanities and Social Sciences to the Director of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). She is married to Pierre-François Mourier, the current Ambassador of France in Slovenia. St. Andrew’s students will Skype again with her on Thursday during Upper School lunch during our regular Travel Thursday time.
